With Intel well on their way developing their next generation CPU, AMD is profitting on their K6 Pentium Class MMX CPU. But like Michael Johnson, cyrix seems to have stopped running halfway due to minor setbacks.
The K6 is very successful and effective so far. People find it cheaper compared with the Intel chips, and delivers above average performace. AMD is content with rapidly increasing sales and profits, but still cannot be financially comparable to Intel... yet.
Intel seems to have lost its roar as competition arise. Although Intel is the standard of the industry, many manufacturers are replacing unexpensive Intel chips with cheaper counterparts, making prices lower. Other manufacturers provide an Intel or imitation option, where we can choose our processor. Because of this, Intel is lsowly losing clients, but their reputation has a definite advantage over smaller competitors.
Cyrix, with their troublesome 6X86 Processor, hopes to rebound and rebuild their reputation with their much hyped M2 processor. Their 6X86 fried P.C's around the world, and to pour more oil onto the fire, their 6X86L lite version is being ignored and phased out in many retail and warehouse stores. Their only hope of redemption is a successgul critique on their M2.
To this critic, The M2 is quite good compared to the Pentium Pro MMX, but is a complete letdown when compared to the K6. The performance rate of the K6 is much higher than the M2.
Another thing this critic is fuming about is the domination of Intel processors on the market. Obviously, imitation chips can outperform their Intel counterparts, in some instances, above and beyond what a Pentium could do, with one half of the cost.
Personally, The Intel chips are not worth the money when better, cheaper chips are on the market.
Well, the race is on. Looks like Intel and Cyrix will bring up hte rear, while AMD continue to lead.
